Why would someone want to use essential oils?
Ya I know, I hear you. This isn’t 1962. Essential oils? Not my thing. Do I look like a hippy to you? Don’t answer that!
Sometimes in a moment of desperation you become more willing to try things you never thought you would. That’s where I was when essential oils first entered the scene for me. I was actually laying in a CT machine, not for the first time, when the thought came to me. “These headaches have a trigger and I’m going to find it.” I’d undergone all the CT scans, MRI’s and whatever else the doctor ordered but still no answer. I mean they said stuff like “some people just live with headaches” and “we can give you meds for the pain” But no real reasons or answers. So I began journaling. I wrote down everything I was doing and eating and touching when the headaches started. In just a few weeks I noticed they started most often when cleaning the bathroom. So I gave up cleaning the bathroom. The End. No, just kidding. I actually gave up all that cleaning supplies. I cleaned with only vinegar and like magic the headaches were better! Then the soap and shampoo. Anything with fragrance listed as an ingredient had to go. I have you looked into these ingredients? I mean woof, toxin overload!
I went from daily headaches to one a week. That might not sound like music to your ears since I’m not reporting zero headaches ever. But the difference is 4 a month vs. 30 a month. Que the music to your ears.
So… awesome… here I am with way fewer headaches but smelling like vinegar and B.O.
So I try my hand at making homemade soap. (click here for the recipe) haha. Totally kidding. You don’t want to try it. I found myself on a blog with a click here link for essential oils to fragrance soap. Ok I’ll try it. And it worked. The oils smelled pretty good, the soap smelled pretty good, and no increase in headaches. Essential oils for the win. But these oils were bought for soap. They were stored with the soap supplies and they were used with the same amount of caution I used when handling the lye. (oh if I could have seen my future I would have fainted) This was my life with oils for 2 years.
Then I came in contact with serious oilers. These crazy people put oils in their mouth. (insert my mouth hanging open) And they had these amazing stories of the things these oils have done for them. Did I mention I am a paramedic? I do not buy into the idea your oils fixed a single one of your problems. Of course I did not say that to them. They started teaching me simple ways to use these little drops in my everyday life. And you know what? My quality of life improved. My kids quality of life improved. I now had a tangible thing to give to my stressed out child. I had a tool to use to teach coping skills. I had something to help us sleep besides medications that have unwanted side effects. I had the perfect bathroom spa in my own home. (Just diffuse eucalyptus and lavender together and relax.) And those are just the first couple things I learned about oils. Here I am 2 years later and I believe one thing with all my heart. Everyone needs Jesus and YL essential oils
So here I am raising my glass of water with 5 drops of “Lemon Vitality” in a toast to you and your journey. May it always include Jesus and Young Living.
(Pictured is all my favorite crazy oil people.)
